At the height of the most bountiful season, Concrete Jungle is proud to announce the release of Concrete Jungle: A Foraged Fruit Cookbook! Join us to celebrate at Wild Heaven Beer in Avondale Estates on Saturday, August 24th at 7 p.m. Admission is free! Come purchase your very own copy of the cookbook while you enjoy live music, food from local vendors, and Wild Heaven beer for sale.
Through more than 40 recipes contributed by local chefs, clients, volunteers, and friends, alongside beautiful full-color photographs from 20 talented photographers, the cookbook tells the story of Concrete Jungle. The recipes are centered around ingredients that can be foraged in the Atlanta area—an homage to our work and purpose—and include 14 varieties of fruit, flower, and nut.
With recipes that range from Kudzu Lemonade to Pawpaw Ice Cream to Grilled Pear and Burrata Salad, they represent both the bounty and the community that sustains us.
Concrete Jungle harvests food from the thousands of fruit and nut trees growing in the Atlanta area for donations to homeless shelters and food pantries. Most of these trees are in yards, on the side of the road, or next to buildings, and would otherwise go untended and ignored.
Through the generosity of donors and more than 900 volunteers annually, we pick these fruits, nuts, and vegetables throughout metro Atlanta and the surrounding areas and donate as much of the harvest as possible to organizations serving Atlanta’s poor and hungry. We also grow vegetables to donate on our small urban farm in Southwest Atlanta, which also allows us to host volunteer events and make donations year-round.
Since our founding, Concrete Jungle has donated 371,484 servings of fresh produce to those in need.
Like all that we do, Concrete Jungle: A Foraged Fruit Cookbook is the result of loving volunteer efforts from many people who believe in our small but mighty organization. It supports our mission to share dignified, abundant fruit that grows wild all over the city in a way that uplifts, nourishes, and empowers fellow Atlantans in need. All proceeds go toward our efforts to grow and forage more fresh produce for soup kitchens and food pantries around our home city and the wider state.
At The Hamptons at East Cobb Apartments in Marietta, Georgia, we consider ourselves lucky to be located in a thriving community with so much excitement happening daily. Support local events and make plans to check this exciting one out on Wednesday!
